"Contacting Kate Landrigan was by far one of the best things we did for our daughter."

What can we say about Kate? As you will soon find out yourselves, contacting Kate Landrigan was by far one of the best things we did for our daughter. Having a child with ADHD is a challenge in itself. But Kate did indeed accomplish the impossible: She found a way to connect with our daughter and set a solid foundation for learning for both today and for the future. In short, she made math fun!

Kate’s approach to child learning is thorough. She takes the time to find specifics and details often overlooked in today’s classroom environment. This is done through interviews, active listening, review of outside testing, information from teachers, combined with a vast understanding of different learning styles. She is patient and kind. She sets clear boundaries and expectations for her students. She fosters a level of confidence often lost in the classroom. Our daughter’s grades indeed improved. More importantly, our daughter’s new-found self-advocacy in the classroom and self-recognition of how ‘she’ learns, was the hidden jewel we found along the way.

It is easy to recognize Kate’s style. Her passion and understanding for teaching has opened up a world of possibilities for our daughter.  The best endorsement we can provide is the simple truth that Kate has become family! We will always remain grateful for the positive influence she has had in our daughter’s life. We are truly excited for your family to have found such a talented, resourceful, caring, educational therapist for your child. Kate is amazing.

"As parents, we have appreciated Kate’s patience, tenacity, knowledge, and flexible schedule."

Kate began working with our dyslexic daughter in 2nd grade, when our child showed frustration and confusion in math. Kate’s gentle one-on-one instruction soon buoyed Jessica’s confidence and taught her skills that translated to the classroom learning. She found the gaps in Jessica’s understanding and filled those with skill building, repetition, and tools —brain tools, but also literally a notebook of math tools that our daughter learned she could pull out and utilize. As parents, we have appreciated Kate’s patience, tenacity, knowledge, and flexible schedule. Her ability to build a relationship with Jessica meant that our child could ‘settle in’ and truly begin to learn and practice the skills she needed. Now math is her favorite subject!

"Our daughter is now completing her first semester in 6th grade with an A in math and has just advanced to the top math group. We cannot THANK Kate enough for the time and effort that she invested in our daughter!!"

Kate worked with our daughter who attended Friends’ School at the end of her 4th grade year through the beginning of 6th grade. Kate met with her at school during free blocks and also at our home during the summers. We initially hired her because our daughter had many missing basic gaps in her math foundation, and we felt she needed to be better prepared before she entered 6th grade at Dawson School. Kate is very friendly, calm, personable, organized, an excellent communicator, a great listener, and she’s has a deep knowledge of math curriculum. She was always on time and made personal connections with our family. Their first meetings focused on observational and structural assessment, playing math games, putting a math ‘toolkit' together, and listening to goals and expectations. As a parent, I was required to provide Kate with a packet of information about her learning style, interests, academic history, and any questions/concerns that we had. Our daughter responded very well to her tutor sessions with Kate. She is now completing her first semester in 6th grade with an A in math and has just advanced to the top math group. She sees herself as a strong mathematician and is now a self-motivated math student. We cannot THANK Kate enough for the time and effort that she invested in our daughter!! Our family would highly recommend Kate to work with your student.

"Kate's positive attitude towards learning has helped my son become more resilient in the school environment."

My son has a number of learning differences, including executive function issues. He began working with Kate at the beginning of his 6th grade year to help him develop his organizational skills to be successful in middle school. After the first session, my son told me he really enjoyed working with her. And that feeling has never waivered. Kate understands the challenges that he faces, and she empowers him to believe he can do the work required of him. Her positive attitude towards learning has helped him become more resilient in the school environment. Of course, he still has much to learn, and I have every confidence Kate will continue to help him develop into a successful student.

In addition to being a great resource for my son, Kate is also a great resource for parents. She’s always willing to explain why she works with my son in particular ways, and she has given me excellent tips for helping to keep him on track. It isn’t easy to parent kids who struggle with executive function issues, and Kate manages to convey a sense of calm and order that can sometimes be elusive for those of us who experience the day-to-day issues of things like forgetting homework assignments, losing lunchboxes, and generally staying on task. With her guidance, I feel I understand my son’s challenges better, and I have more patience for his world. That has reduced conflict and anxiety for both of us in our home. And ultimately, I’m sure he will be a happier person because of the support he feels.

"Working with Kate has been a game changer for our family."

Nurturing confidence, skill building and reinforcing classroom learning has created a culture of math appreciation. Kate is patient, encouraging, creative, communicative, innovative and genuine. We are fortunate to enroll in a school which values specialist work, and Kate has truly been a part of the classroom team.

Our daughter loves her weekly sessions and has crafted a bond with Kate that surpasses their math work together. She is proud to share athletic and extra curricular accomplishments with Kate, too. Sometimes, they even craft fun word problems to recreate a special experience. Nearly three years later, we are grateful for the opportunity to work with Kate and have her encourage of daughter’s love of problem solving.

"Kate has been instrumental in showing my son new ways to learn, and this is invaluable as he has had so little success in the past."

Kate shows tireless enthusiasm and patience with my son. It is very difficult to keep him on track, but somehow she manages to engage and redirect in order to reach him. She has been instrumental in showing him new ways to learn, and this is invaluable as he has had so little success in the past.

"Not once did our son ever complain about having to 'do all this extra schoolwork'—this says volumes about the nature to the relationship that Kate was able to create with our son."

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation/testimonial for Kate Landrigan as an educational therapist. Kate worked with our 6th grade son to help identify and then address gaps in his math skills.

Prior to starting work with Kate, our son had spent the previous 6 years living outside the country. Upon returning to the US, we knew that his math skills were lacking when compared to US students at his grade level. Kate helped us to identify the the gaps by administering an initial assessment. This information was shared with his school’s math teacher, and then she and Kate worked to create an appropriate plan to address these gaps. At the end of the school year, Kate administered a second assessment to see the exact progress our son had made. Needless to say, we were very impressed with the results. Thanks to Kate’s help, he made fantastic progress!

Kate worked with our son throughout the year on a twice-weekly basis. She was extremely flexible in terms of her approach and communication. She even worked directly with our son’s school to find times that she could meet with him on campus so as not to break too much of the day’s rhythm – and to make it easier for us as parents to ensure that our son was getting the needed attention.

Lastly, but most importantly, I would like to highlight Kate’s personal relationship with our son. Kate’s approach and attitude was positive, helpful, and caring. Not once did our son ever complain about having to “do all this extra schoolwork”—this says volumes about the nature to the relationship that she was able to create with our son. We highly recommend her services to anyone who is looking for an educational therapist for their child.

"I would recommend Kate to any student who wants to mature and wants the tools that are required to be a successful college student."

Due to COVID-19, online learning presented an extreme challenge of trying to stay on top of work and assignments in a world where I was unable to attend class.  Kate Landrigan instituted the invaluable tools of organization, as well as giving me somebody to hold me accountable for my schoolwork.  I would recommend Kate to any student who wants to mature and wants the tools that are required to be a successful college student.

"Our daughter has challenges with Executive Functioning so we were looking for someone to provide more than just tutoring...We have seen her confidence grow tremendously this year and this has made such a difference for her growth."

We are so grateful to have found Kate and the educational therapy she provides. Our daughter has challenges with Executive Functioning so we were looking for someone to provide more than just tutoring. Kate’s patient and caring approach to supporting the learning behaviors that help kids access learning and the curriculum has made all the difference. Our daughter looked forward to every session and came out smiling after each one. We have seen her confidence grow tremendously this year and this has made such a difference for her growth.  Kate was highly communicative throughout our time working with her. She shared an initial comprehensive evaluation after administering diagnostic assessments as well as detailed reports to monitor progress. She also communicated with our daughter's teachers to ensure consistency and foster a team approach to learning.  We would highly recommend Kate and her educational therapy services to anyone looking to increase their child’s independence and confidence and to have fun along the way!
